Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Current Landscape
Brockport's 24th Annual Diversity Conference
The Diversity Conference seeks to promote open-mindedness, celebrate diversity, and promote awareness of divergent views on our college campus and within our communities. The conference also serves as a forum in which to establish or enhance self-awareness in relation to community building endeavors.
Using an equity, diversity and inclusion framework, this year’s conference will expand on current efforts to Build a Better Brockport. This year’s Diversity Conference explores how equity, diversity, and inclusion take shape in the present moment, as these efforts face increased challenge and opposition. Through the lens of current events and lived experiences, we will examine how our understanding of these values continues to evolve. Conference participants will gather to learn, reflect, and gain tools to recognize and eliminate bias, foster inclusion, and care for one another. In a time when EDI efforts are under heightened scrutiny, this conference affirms their importance and creates space for collective learning and connection.

ABSTRACT
Please review the abstract sample below and upload your abstract. (100-150 words maximum)
SAMPLE ABSTRACTS:
-This session will describe how three local efforts: HEART, Healthy Kids, and Project HOPE are championing health access and equity through partnerships, community engagement and implementing policy and systems changes. Attendees will gain an understanding of the program goals for each of these initiatives, how they have worked together to achieve positive outcomes and key ways they are engaging the community to prevent chronic disease.
-This workshop will present an anecdotal travelogue on the experiences of a Brockport international student from the UK studying and living in Vietnam. The workshop’s goal is to expose participants to Vietnamese culture in an effort to dispel common misconceptions many Americans still hold in thinking of Vietnam through the prism of the Vietnam War. This workshop will highlight the presenter’s experiences of surviving in a new culture, examine how bridges were built in the community, and assess questions of gender equality in an effort to embrace and appreciate differences.
