The International Student Emergency Fund (ISEF) aims to support international students who are currently studying at SUNY Brockport. Sometimes, students (or their families) encounter unforeseen economic emergencies that threaten their ability to continue their studies. -------------------------------------------------------------------- What is Considered an Emergency? Examples of unforeseen circumstances that could be considered emergencies include: - sudden death in the family - extreme loss of financial support or on-campus employment (if the student is not at fault). - student medical bill not covered by insurance. - unexpected travel expenses - basic needs insecurities (clothing, groceries, health supplies, etc.) Types of Expenses: The ISEF fund is able to provide assistance by awarding a grant to help cover expenses such as the following: -Emergency international travel - Replacement of stolen or broken items needed for education (computer, instrument, etc.) - Medical or dental expense not covered by health insurance - Short-term Transportation This emergency fund will not be able to cover expenses considered outside the scope of emergencies, which include: - Tuition - University Fees - Credit Card or Personal Debt - Legal Representation - Required Course Materials (textbooks, lab coats/equipment, scrubs, software, etc.) - Long-term or Ongoing Expenses (rent, payment plans, etc.) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Student Eligibility Criteria: - The student has been in F-1 status for one full academic year. - The student is in good academic standing, is carrying a full course of study, and is otherwise in-status as an F-1 student. Students on OPT are not eligible to apply. - The student has sufficiently demonstrated that on-campus work opportunities have been exhausted and/or are not sufficient to cover expenses. Please note that ISEF funding is limited to a one-time/semester grant not to exceed $400. Average awarded grants range from $200-to-$300. All awards are reviewed on an individual basis and are subject to change at the discretion of the review committee. The review committee will work to meet your request as best as possible, depending on individual circumstances and availability of funds. Requests may also be supplemented by additional non-financial support, such as community food assistance, ride sharing resources, alternative housing, etc.
