International Student Emergency Fund (ISEF) Application

The International Student Emergency Fund (ISEF) aims to support international students who are currently students at SUNY Brockport. Sometimes, students (or their families) encounter unforeseen economic hardship that threaten their ability to continue their studies. Examples of unforeseen circumstances:

  • - Loss of financial support or on-campus employment (if the student is not at fault).
    - Substantial fluctuations in the value of currency or exchange rate.
    - Inordinate increases in tuition and/or living costs.
    - Unexpected changes in the financial condition of your source of support, such a loss of a family business.
    - Excessive medical bills not covered by insurance.
    - Other substantial, unexpected expenses, including, but not limited to natural disasters, wars and military conflicts, national or international financial crises.

  • This one-time grant aims to keep students from having to apply for Severe Economic Hardship through USCIS, which would be the alternative solution to the circumstances listed above..

    Eligibility Criteria:

  • - The student has been in F-1 status for one full academic year. Students on OPT are not eligible.
    - The student is in good academic standing as a student, is carrying a full course of study, and is otherwise in-status as an F-1 student.
    - The student has demonstrated that on-campus work opportunities have been exhausted and/or are not sufficient to cover expenses.

Please note that all awards are reviewed on an individual basis, and are subject to change at the discretion of the review committee. The review committee will work to meet your request as best as possible, dependent on individual circumstance and availability of funds. Requests may also be supplemented by additional non-financial support, such as community food assistance, ride sharing resources, alternative housing, etc.
