Trash-to-Treasure 2019 Volunteers

The annual Trash-to-Treasure initiative will be taking place May 8th through June 4th on our College campus. It is a collaboration between the Office of Community Development, Facilities and Residential Life and is an opportunity for our students to donate their unwanted used and new clothing, household items and food & toiletries before leaving campus for the summer months. Every item that is collected is donated to local non-profit organizations and agencies.

Last year, we collected and sorted 45,384 items. The items were then donated to over 40 local organizations.

With that being said, WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE THIS EVENT A SUCCESS! There are two areas where we are looking for volunteers. The first is in collecting all the items from the residence halls. This is our "move-out" process. The second area where volunteers are needed is in sorting the donations once they have been collected. This will be done in the Cooper Hall gymnasium. Volunteers will need to set up the donations like a department store, so that the organizations/agencies can come and "shop" for free.

Please fill in the information below and select your volunteer shifts. After you submit this form, you will be redirected to a sign-up page to select the time(s) and day(s) you are available to volunteer. Thank you in advance for your support of this program!

  • Donation Collector

These volunteers travel across campus to the 13 residence halls to collect the donated items. Items are bagged, collected and put in a vehicle to be brought over to the Cooper Hall gymnasium. Some volunteers, if interested, may be asked to drive these vehicles to help transport the items across campus. Please be prepared to do some semi-heavy lifting (i.e. canned goods, larger household items, etc.)

  • Donation Sorters

These volunteers will spend their time in the Cooper Hall gymnasium sorting through thousands of donations and preparing them for display. The organizations/agencies appreciate a well organized donation room because it is much easier to find what they need.
